from old deputy-dog - can't view so posting here

airports, runways and air traffic control

24Jun07

i used to think that all airports were pretty much the same: main grey terminal, long runway, immense car park, w.h.smith in every available corner. well they’re obviously not. there are, like most things in life, fascinating variations throughout the world. following the positive response to the ‘prisons of the world‘ post i thought i’d put together a collection of the most interesting airport related stuff i could find.

enjoy.

(p.s. please don’t bother attacking the lack of capital letters in my posts, it gets boring quite quickly. i’m just a fan of the lower-case)

1. world’s steepest runway

courchevel airport, courchevel, france

courchevel runway

initially i thought this was completely fucking nuts.

“surely a runway that steep is asking for trouble?”, i wondered to myself.

but it actually makes more sense doesn’t it? more speed for take-off (i’m guessing that’s a plus) and a natural braking mechanism when landing (again, i’m assuming that’d be a winning formula. feel free to correct me).

watch the video for a scary take-off and landing…

2. world’s busiest airport (by passenger traffic)

hartsfield-jackson atlanta international airport, georgia, united states

before looking into this i was certain that heathrow would crush all opposition in this category, but apparently the claims i’d heard were all a myth (it turns out that if you discounted domestic flights heathrow would be the daddy).

the airport at atlanta kicks some ass when it comes to number of passengers, 2006’s total being 84,846,639. holy shit.

2nd place is chicago’s o’hare airport at 76,248,911.

3. world’s shortest commercial runway

yrasquin airport, saba

saba airport

the runway at saba’s airport is an insanely brief 400 metres long. there’s also no room for error when you land there as each end of the runway is met by a drop and then water. for this reason it’s considered by many to be the most dangerous runway on earth and commercial planes need to get special permission to land on the strip.

there’s a video of a landing at the airport below…

4. world’s highest landing fee

toronto’s pearson airport,toronto, canada

according to the ‘air transport research society’ it costs a whopping us$10,986 to land a single boeing 747 at toronto’s pearson airport. like me that’s probably numbers to most of you but bear in mind that the second most expensive landing fees can be found at osaka’s kansai airport and they’re 45% lower than toronto’s. cheeky bastards.

next time you’re flying near canada just head for a field.

5. world’s most challenging runway approach

linzhi airport, tibet

all is explained in the following clip…

6. world’s most expensive airport construction

hong kong international airport, hong kong

the record is currently held by hong kong international airport which cost the government us$20bn back in 1997.

however, this claim is about to be smashed by the big-spending mentalists in dubai, surprise surprise, where they’re building ‘dubai international airport city’ .

“why build an airport when we can spend more money creating a gold-plated city with runways instead of roads?”

to be completed in 2018, the estimated final cost is now standing at us$82bn, so fuck knows what the actual cost of the ‘aerotropolis’ will be in 11 years time.

interesting fact – the airport city will house 750,000 people, making it almost as large as stockholm.

7. world’s best looking airport

suvarnabhumi airport, bangkok, thailand

bangkok airport

bangkok airport

bangkok airport

obviously this is my personal opinion, it was a toss-up between bangkok, above, and incheon, below (which from a distance looks like something designed by h.r. giger).

incheon airport

8. world’s biggest airport (land mass)

king fahd international airport, saudi arabia

king fahd international airport

this monster sits on top of a piece of land that measures 780 square km.

that’s bigger than singapore and bigger than the airport’s neighbouring country, bahrain. the airport also contains a luxurious ‘royal terminal’ which is strictly reserved for royalty and heads of state visiting the area.

one thing seriously lacking at the airport is passengers. in 2004, 2,782,000 passengers passed through the place, now if you consider that the airport in atlanta is coping with around 84,846,639 per year in a much smaller area you can start to see the difference.

9. world’s most insane runway location

princess juliana international airport, france/netherlands

insane

if you’ve ever been on youtube you’ll probably have watched a clip of a plane approaching a runway right next to a beach. that airport is princess julianna international airport.

here’s the clip that started everyone’s fascination with the airport…

below is a video compilation of some of the closest landings…

extras:

- well worth a watch, this is a 10 minute clip from a documentary about air traffic control, one of the most stressful jobs on earth…

- sticking with air traffic controllers, watch this and be scared. a terrifying clip from the documentary ‘air force, incorporated’ about the ‘disastrous state of civil aviation’ in argentina. it seems that not all controllers are as skilled as you’d imagine…

- finally, here’s a video showing 24 hours of air traffic over europe. terrifying.

  1. I can well understand why building the new airport in Hong Kong cost so much -there is so little available land in HK, that they had to create a landfill in the sea. But it was very much needed. My first overseas trip landed at the OLD Hong Kong airport. The jumbo jet flew between buildings and landed on a runway built out over the sea… you wanna talk about scary, that was some introduction to Asia!

  2. jesus!
thank god i’ll never experience that.
it’s actually the take-off that gives me the creeps, when i’m high above land i somehow feel safer.

  3. wow those were great! i love to fly and would think about going to some of those place to have a look see. i wanna do that super short runway first and last would be flying to argentina.

    great work!

    jeff

  4. 4 Filip, Sweden

Ive been to the SaudiArabian one. Its freaking huge!

  5. 5 Henrik

like the princess juliana airport this one is also directly next to the beach:

    Skiathos Airport in Greece:

  6. Have a look at the Madeira Island Airport. A landing is very amazing!

  7. 7 Old Swede 65

Gibraltar Airport is also interesting: The only road from Spain to Gibraltar is crossing the runway. The traffic is stopped each time there is a take off or landing.

  8. Unknowingly, I went to that beach in St. Maartin. I had no idea what I was in store for. Scared the shit out of me.

  9. 9 mglcsw

The airport in San Diego, Calfornia, USA, is a bit scary. It is practically in the downtown area.

  10. 10 Avi

    The images don’t work!

  11. 11 Dave

Wow, amazing videos on air traffic control. Makes you think of 9/11. Imagine having to land every single plane is US and Canadian airspace virtually at one. Yikes!

  12. Beleve me, it’s all about the money.

  13. 13 Kim

    What? NO Gibralar?

Short runway, and traffic has to be stopped to permit panes to land an take off

Its a real bastard when you’e running ate for work!

"Built To Rule is clear proof that an established toy manufacturing pedigree isn't enough to guarantee success in the construction brick toy market. This brand seemed like a great idea and a natural winner, piggy-backing on three perennially popular toy lines: GI Joe, Transformers, and Tonka. Nevertheless Built To Rule languished on the shelves, suffering from a weak (that is, nearly nonexistent} marketing campaign and curiously limited in-store visibility. Before long, sets originally priced at $29.99 were sold at remarkable discounts (up to 95% off), and even then they sold very slowly.

The GI Joe and Tonka sets included 1/18 scale action figures similar to conventional GI Joe soldiers but with stud attachment points on the forearms and boots. The Transformer sets could, within certain limits, morph into cars, trucks, or aircraft, much like conventional Transformers.

All three lines made extensive use of locking joints and embossed or engraved elements, adding a level of texture seldom seen in brick toys. The quality of the plastic was quite good, and the colors were rich and consistent, certainly on par with LEGO standards.

It's not clear whether the entirety of the 2004 lines was released. I own several of the 2004 sets and have seen one or two more, but that leaves half a dozen or so unverified. It's possible that the line was scrapped and the sets stowed in a warehouse somewhere.

The most distinctive identifying characteristic of a Built To Rule brick is the BTR logo printed on each stud. "

Best-Lock (Classic)

C3 by Art Asylum: 2004 through 2005

"The only series released under the Intelli-blox name was a line of licensed sets produced for Peter Jackson's film The Fellowship of the Ring. The license was held by Playmates (curiously titilating name for a manufacturer of children's action figures), and the blocks themselves were produced by Tandem bricks, a brand seldom seen and little available in North America. The Intelli-blox line therefore represents an oddly concentric product: a property licensed to a brand owned by a company that contracts brick production through a separate manufacturer!"

after twitter - answering tyler's question

The next layer on the stack... from Social Media on Vimeo.

ok. I have my final answer, well not really my answer - I cheated, but I still agree.

If you open the answer back up, I'll post there. Really you should have your friends call me out.

http://vimeo.com/4806725?pg=embed&sec=

next wave - feed aggregation/filtering.
(I feel a little silly making such a broad, obvious suggestion - but really that is your answer.)

thinking aloud.

Answering the question - what is the next Twitter?

Trust based alternative currencies. (w/ true micro-commerce)
Pervasive, right sized web service talking computing devices (think Bug Labs)
Social Action directed through mobile technology. (currently manifested as Performance Art and digital graffiti)
Ocean Cities.
Reputation Systems.
Crowd Clout. (crowd purchasing - ie user/purchasing bases connecting before purchase.)
On Demand, Online Radio - PAYING royalties through loyalty programs and advertising.
Dark Nets. Honest CEOs. Electric Cars.
Global Insourcing (bastardized term meaning opposite of global outsourcing.)

But to keep in the theme, you're looking for an APP you can build proof of concept in an afternoon right?

http://academicearth.org/lectures/the-world-is-flat

Neural Network - data points - health care.

...Trying (hard) to keep on track to the theme of the question rather spouting nonsense like:

What do we need?

What is cool about Twitter? hyper-viral. broadcast to many/rebroadcast to many.

Social Network vs Twitter - real time? free of social network noise? Note: Social networks are now becoming real time. Maybe I should broaden the category of Social Network - to be Social Network AND feed aggregation and summary.

Twitter is a way to create and interact with feeds. And visualize these ideas.

What am I looking for? Meme tracking. ie Yahoo Buzz, HypeM, Real time Google. related aggregation and summary. killer app like twitter? not really. 2 million user potential? as Mel points out: 2 million isn't that crazy.

The Delphi Oracle.

Context - how/when/if we view these feeds - is a killer application. But for what purpose?

http://academicearth.org/lectures/the-world-is-flat

my take away in this video is - there is going to be a landslide of applications to fill these voids.

The city of Flint, Michigan is considering this very idea. Over the last few decades Flint has lost nearly half its population. They are considering the idea of moving the few remaining homes in some areas and resettling those people in a more concentrated core area. The abandoned areas would no longer need city services like fire protection, snow plowing and other street maintenance, or repairs of water and sewer systems. It is seen as a way of improving your dreaded economic efficiency in the operation of the city. The problem of suburban sprawl isn't even a factor in this plan.

This will also help drive the revenue stream for the project - ie Download H&R branded OpenTax Canada software.

Types of Contributors
- TESTING/CERTIFICATION
use case based - people will test only a few use cases similiar to their needs, and it would be nice to have a test team of 50+ people providing a comprehensive TEST base for Revenue Canada certification.
- DEVELOPERS
- DISTRIBUTION PARTNERS
* content / companies that pay to package

Revenue
- Corporate licensing for branding
- corporate sponsorship
- private sponsorship
- private/corporate voluntary license
- support stipend (3rd part support program)

pulse feedback

Thoughts pulse_support [at] plaxo.com
- multiple work records (I need two), but it might be neat to maintain a work history as well. Many implications - maybe connections could be linked to certain work profiles. and in the case of an old job - contacts are linked to my old contact details. ie My Online Business Card (plaxo) matches the context of my connection.

- I want to populate multiple IM, Social Network addresses for people, and their feeds.

- more granular permissions - I want to share individual databits. Individual data items could be socially organized into Permission Profiles that I can adopt.
(ie I control per data item, how I want to share the information. How I share my data could be saved as a "Permission Profile" - to allow me to quickly apply permissions to my account.

My Social Network - I need:
(1) Build my social network from my address book.
- Question for myself - isn't this the same as address book? ie I can add every real world contact into my address book. (a big void in current social networking site imho). - yes and no.

after thinking for a bit - I need to be able to populate my address book records w/ multiple IM, Feeds, Social Network and Online Identities.

I think there should be a passive layer to social networking. Allowing me to "subscribe" to public feeds without "friending" - i do not mind publishing

"Here are seven major aspects of Facebook you can use to increase the visibility of your startup, business, product or service:

1. Set Up Your Graph: Profiles & Privacy
2. Make Connections: Networks, Groups & Events
3. The Need for Feed: Your [Shared] Social Activity Stream
4. Share Your Content: Share & People-Tag Your Stories & Media
5. App to the Future: The Facebook Platform, APIs, & Applications
6. Pay to Play: Ad Networks, Sponsored Stories, & Paid Distribution
7. Show Me The Bunny: Gifts, Points, & Virtual Currency"

I usually don't like this crap, but it highlights a couple things. 1) you need to think about how you want to approach social networks, and I want to make some notes on this/

One thing that I am excited about is the future standardization of web services to allow us to easily configure our client agents to communicate with multiple web services with different providers. or internal servers depending on our needs.

The ruby project "Park Place" already allows us to simulate the S3 web service.

Facebook IM

The world does not need another IM. But do need to be building tools to better take advantage of the world around us.

Jabber - is going to rise significantly as the IM platform. Jabber clients will be able to traverse (for messaging) all networks, and clients can be built to offer specific functionality and interoperability across specific networks. Example: Google Talk. (I am assuming Google Talk has features specific to just google talk in terms of network features and client capabilities).

Facebook. How do we build a facebook IM?

(1) Allow users to profile their networks, and select preferences for services for messaging. ie MSN. or Jabber.
(2) Facebook Users synchronize their IM clients with facebook (social network et al) w/ their online rosters - adding their friends according to their transport preferences.
(3) This will require a server component, facebook application and client plugin.

Facebook application will organize roster and IM preferences.
IM Client Plugin, will retrieve the facebook roster and update roster list as appropriate - adding and deleting as appropriate.

(parent) Installing FreeRadius

FreeRadius Installation

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=151781

sudo apt-get install freeradius freeradius-mysql freeradius-dialupadmin

Basic Configuration

nano /etc/raddb/clients.conf

It's best to start with a simple config using the standard text files, if only to test that FreeRADIUS is correctly installed and works.

  • Edit /etc/raddb/clients.conf and enter the details of your NAS unit(s). There are examples here, so it should be easy. There should already be a 'localhost' NAS preconfigured here for testing purposes (i.e. so you can use radtest).
  • Edit /etc/raddb/users and create an example user account. The file is commented on how to do this.
  • Edit /etc/raddb/radiusd.conf and change as needed. You may wish to change the default port to run on 1645 (old port) if you are replacing a legacy RADIUS server.

At this point you should be able to manually fire up /usr/sbin/radiusd. You should do this with the debug turned on so you can see what happens:

     /usr/sbin/radiusd -X

Lots of stuff will scroll to the screen, and it should tell you it's ready to accept requests. If you get an error, READ THE DEBUG, then check the docs, check the above and try again.

You should now be able to use FreeRadius. You can use radtest to test an account from the command line:

radtest username password servername port secret

So, if your example user is 'fred' with password 'wilma', your server is called 'radius.domain.com', is using port 1645, and you put localhost (or your localhost's IP) in clients.conf with a secret of 'mysecret', you should use:

radtest fred wilma radius.domain.com 1645 mysecret

And you should get back something like:

     Sending Access-Request of id 226 to 127.0.0.1:1645
User-Name = 'fred'
User-Password = '\304\2323\326B\017\376\322?K\332\350Z;}'
NAS-IP-Address = radius.domain.com
NAS-Port = 1645
     rad_recv : Access-Accept packet from host 127.0.0.1:1645,id=226, length=56
Framed-IP-Address = 80.84.161.1
Framed-Protocol = PPP
Service-Type = Framed-User
Framed-Compression = Van-Jacobson-TCP-IP
Framed-IP- Netmask = 255.255.255.255

You should get an 'Access Accept' response. If you don't, do not pass Go, do not collect £200. Go back and check everything. Read the docs, READ THE DEBUG!!

If you have a Windows PC handy you may also wish to use NTradPing (downloadable from MasterSoft) to send test packets instead of radtest. If you do this, or test from any other machine, remember your PC (or other machine) needs to be in your NAS list in clients.conf too! OK, so at this point you should have text-file authentication working in FreeRadius...

Procedure
install ubuntu 7.04
install SSH

sudo apt-get install openssh-server

update applications

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

NOT SURE ABOUT

apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client libmysqlclient15-dev

Synchonize the System Clock

sudo apt-get install ntp ntpdate

Installing the server applications

https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/server/C/

MySQL

sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client

Once the installation is complete, the MySQL server should be started automatically. You can run the following command from a terminal prompt to check whether the MySQL server is running:

sudo netstat -tap | grep mysql

When you run this command, you should see the following line or something similar:

tcp 0 0 localhost.localdomain:mysql *:* LISTEN -

If the server is not running correctly, you can type the following command to start it:

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart

Configuration

By default, the administrator password is not set. Once you install MySQL, the first thing you must do is to configure the MySQL administrator password. To do this, run the following commands:

sudo mysqladmin -u root password newrootsqlpassword

sudo mysqladmin -p -u root -h localhost password newrootsqlpassword

*** Need instructions on how to change admin password ***

You can edit the /etc/mysql/my.cnf file to configure the basic settings -- log file, port number, etc. Refer to /etc/mysql/my.cnf file for more details.

Installing SAMBA

Not sure why we want SAMBA.
At the prompt enter the following command to install the SAMBA server applications:

sudo apt-get install samba

To mount Windows filesystems using SMB, you will also need smbfs. Enter the command:

sudo apt-get install smbfs

EC2 image directory

Amazon has a suite of web services.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=3435361

I haven't taken the time to absorb all of them, but two are significant. EC2 and S3

EC2 (Elastic Cloud)
- you can create a scaleable abstract image of a server. This image can be immediately duplicated to scale to match demands on your services.
- you can create many different images that talk in their abstract environment - ie a server farm.
- very inexpensive.
- very scaleable.

S3 - blob storage
- incremental, inexpensive scaleable storage. great for backups, online datastores etc.
- fees based on streams (traffic) and storage

I am interested because -
I was installing Twitter, since it is all the rage - but since my IM is on my server in Dallas, running privately on a VPN, I am worried if I make my IM server public to interface with public services - I may have load issues on my server - so I thought...

hmmm I wonder if there is an EC2 image available for OpenFire IM Server. Really I know that there isn't, but there should be - and I imagine a download repository of Amazon EC2 images - very similar to the VMWare appliances that are available for download. Have you seen the VMWare appliance directory?).

VMWare link for reference.
http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/

I also imagine, small technical entrepreneurs could offer services helping people establish/develop/maintain their EC2 image farms.

These guys (random link)
http://info.rightscale.com/
look like they are marketing themselves as EC2/S3 experts

An Example here:

RSS Aggregation - I'll throw some links here. mugg I think is one site. there are many.

Social Dashboard
- receive selected RSS feeds from my social network.
- allow me to package my feeds
- openid

My complaint with FACEBOOK (social networks et al) is that they are not representative of my real life social network. I think I will try and make this site, my real life social dashboard.

In order of priority
- openid
- my profile
- my friends
- my feeds
- feeds I read

Hmmm - has anyone created a FACEBOOK RSS application? that packages the news feed(s) from FACEBOOK as an RSS feed?

Facebook. Social Networking.

I have been reading a little about facebook authentication models and openid. Ultimately, time the bear, I will try and play with both for web authentication.

Having said that - I really should build a facebook application. I have been evangelizing social networks - or rather the applications that will spring from them for quite a while. So time to put or shut up to demonstrate them.

Applications...
freecycle, sharing and garage sale applications
sports matching/challenges and scheduling
sports/game pickup
social lending (immediate transfer, social terms)
pull ads (ie as a person I subscribe to ad feeds to pay for services I want).
- the distinction really needs to be clear. IE I AM LOOKING FOR NEW CAR (filter: Toyota)
...Diapers coupons, used table hockey game
and allow the ads to become more focused as we mature within our buying cycles.
I'll post more...

farming? cooperative purchasing?

What is the advantage of an online social network.
awareness?
community?
communication?

Recording Project

We are going to record some tunes for, I guess, archival purposes. I have organized our songs into "projects" that loosely reflect the time lines they represent, but also into smaller projects to make the overall project easier.

We will - 1 record a very basic frame of each song - this will be a more robust "click track" if you will. But help us clearly establish the boundaries of each track, give something to practice with and record an analog version of the song with.

Once we complete the analog recording for the complete project (or partial), we'll pass it to Duncan that will help us rejig and digitally record the song. Should be a fun process, but possibly quite time consuming as well.

These collections are, c/w project code names:

One that has a wide range of instruments (huuuge download) is FluidR3 GM. This holds all of the instruments that you might be used to seeing on a soundcard.

NSKit7free is a great drumkit. http://www.naturalstudio.co.uk/ns_kit7free.html

This piano is quite nice .. http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php?page=sdet&id=2509

The alternative is to use a VSTi. Some are synths but some are simple instruments.. e.g. MDA Piano, Mr Ray. Search here to see what you can find .. http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php

Music Organization

I just downloaded, on recommendation, Advanced MP3 Catalog. It has a nice simple interface and seems to organize files well.

Within my community of friends, George Taylor, has been developing a media organizer/player
http://exactosoft.com/mmp/index.html
I haven't become a fan of the software, but I will license (pay) it next time I cross real world paths with George, and install the latest versions when I have time and offer my feedback.

Software to watch: SONGBIRD.
http://www.songbirdnest.com/

It has a feature I have been thinking about learning XUL to build as a firefox plugin - receive and synchonize to an RSS feed.

Maybe where it fails today - is SIMPLICITY. I want simple, modular and extensible.

The music player I have been using is Foobar 2000
http://www.foobar2000.com/

Some of the things - with no real thought or direction in this list -  I am looking for featurewise include:
simple.
extensible.
plug in player. (modular)
view other people's collections.
synchronize their collections (ie backup!)
- selected downloads from other collections.
integrated (modular) P2P, RSS, WEB GRABBER (ie type in URL - get list of media available for download)
Collector view (not file - view a complete discography - and see what you are missing).
I'lll try to craft a clear view. and publish here.

Music Formats

This will become an open letter stating my intentions.

Given all the hubbubaloo about MP3s lately - why not switch the industry to OGG and FLAC formats for music? From this day forward I will only create MP3s where I am forced, and express my dismay as I do it.
This means emusic, myspace, last.fm et al will receive emails from me - pointing to my open letter, and requesting they support open standards.

VXN Media

I am sending an email to a friend soliciting a live recording to produce a sample CD, and am throwing down some notes to talk about what I want to do.

VXN
- help me collect the music I want. I may be discriminating, so I am not collecting anything and everything - I am building out from my interest.
- Once I have collected media - I want other people to be able to build the same collection. This means I have to talk to the artists, and see what they want to do with their content. They may not want to share with anyone - odds are they want to share with someone.
- I will build the tools I need to manage this exchange - including ecommerce, if required.

WHAT DO I WANT?
- Connect to the Artist I like. Social Network - I probably want a richer connection that talks about the role I play, and be able to view (and interact) the people that also share roles with the artist. Connection, Quality and Role
- Connection means I know about new material, access to exclusive material, gigs, radio play, interviews, media watch
- Where can I get media and material.
- MEDIA! I want JAMS, DEMO, IDEAS, LIVE SHOWS, STUDIO RELEASES
- Artists to tell me how they feel about sharing. and recording.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?
- ask artists for content - JAMS, DEMO, IDEAS, LIVE SHOWS, STUDIO RELEASES
- in exchange for the content, I will help them share it - if they need help.
- I have access to
"Microboards Dx-2 with modification to allow lamination to surface for enhanced durability."
so I will produce a low run exclusive CD/DVD Series with the content I collect. This will be under the auspices of the VXN label. I will sell and distribute on behalf of the artists if they want, digitally and on physical MEDIA (branded USB sticks - and CD/DVDs).
- Post content to LAST.FM
- create a website highlighting content and tools
ARTIST, CATALOG, LABEL - vxn.ca
CONTENT, RSS, ARTIST - indycity.ca (unless you think of something better)

SPAM HALTER notes

SPAMHalter is up and working. I have turned on server side filtered for selected email aliases and domains.

The following is for MEMBERS of this site only, and are instructions for handling SPAM and FALSE POSITIVES.

(1) Receive SPAM
send spam (using REDIRECT or SEND AGAIN) to:
spam+wall@vxn.ca

This updates the SPAM database with the message.

(2) FALSE POSITIVES
send message (using REDIRECT or SEND AGAIN) to:
nospam+wall@vxn.ca

This updates the SPAM database increasing the nospam rating for the words in the message and whitelisting sender.

(3) WHITELISTING
send an email to:
nospam+wall@vxn.ca

This will whitelist email addresses in the body of the message.

(4) Client Side Filtering

Setup your filter to look for a head called X-SPAMHALTER
with contents ""

(5) Server Side filtering

These filters can be applied on the server, redirecting suspected SPAM to another mailbox.
My convention is
SPAMmailbox / password same as mailbox.

(6) I am developing some reports and a web application for SPAM mgmt.

Yes, you heard it right. If you have a VoIP venture, no matter how

I may do my own algorithmic (or more simply numbers to tones) MIDI files -
things like website traffic profiles - "24 hours on a dot com"

Some other real life "numbers" might be... (bad pun sorry)
"Probabilities and Chip Counts at the poker table"
"temperature dropping from a day's high to a night's low in Winnipeg in October with a full moon on a clear night"

Registered sportmail.ca

What do I need a new domain for?

Good question, one has to wonder. Certainly I could have repurposed one of my older domains, but it would have been a little clumsy. So a clean start for this project.

My intention has always been to, number 1, use the Internet to create the best experience possible to meet my needs, and then number 2, develop and share the tools for other people to use. I am primarily developing within Sports and Community frameworks.

I have a web application for managing sports leagues, communication is a necessary component for any league or team. The sportmail.ca domain is to simply allow users of my web applications to create mailing lists for team and league communication. I have a dedicated mail server, and should be able to automate all mailing list processes within the web application.

Starting my customized blog.

Prompted by Greg, and his need to Blog, I decided to try to fulfill my personal blogging needs, and then offer my tool to Greg to use. So far, I am pretty happy I have taken the time to piece it together. I think it is going to be fricken amazing to journal with.

More my speed than other applications, pandering to the specific element I want to post whether it is a one liner, a little more verbose or even an application.

I have another 65 emusic downloads to get started in the next few days... I think I'll listen to some music. Any recommendations for October's downloads?
